ADOPT A HOME MINISTRY

P.O. BOX 1875

OCEAN SPRINGS, MISSISSIPPI, 39566

The Lord of all creation has ordained that He would do His work through us.  Our seeing the Spirit’s guidance and obeying what He wants us to do and say is the way He works to bless the world.  -- Lloyd Ogilvie

Mission Statement:

To provide the volunteers and materials, to restore one family home at a time in Mississippi.

Scope of Work:

There are two components to the ministry:  Raising the funds to pay for the materials to repair the home, and secondly, coordinating the volunteer teams to provide the work.

Need:

There is a percentage of homes in this community

that will not be repaired because the owner:

did not have adequate or any insurance

is aged and/or disabled on limited income

did not qualify for various funding sources

was not able to apply physically for funding

does not have the skills needed

Contributions:

Donors will be given a written receipt confirmation of your gift to the organization.  Please make checks payable to P. D. House Community Development Corporation INC., (or PDHCDC, INC.) and send to the above address.

Raising Funds:

One or more churches, not on the Gulf Coast, would adopt one home that is in need of repair by securing and providing the necessary funds to purchase materials needed for the repair of that home.

A team(s) of volunteers from other states would provide the labor and expertise using the materials provided.

The local church would be the "shepherd" over funds, purchase materials, supervise repair, work with the volunteer coordinator and provide family support

Volunteer Component:

Volunteer team(s), consist of one or more skilled team leaders along with others to respond to the need to repair a home.  The volunteers would be recruited from churches who wish to participate in the Adopt-a-Home ministry.  The Volunteer Coordinator would be responsible for arranging housing for volunteer teams, and scheduling the teams in conjunction with the local church and the home owner.  The Volunteer Team Leader(s) will coordinate with the local church construction supervisor during the home repair.

“Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to achieve uncommon things.”

 --Anonymous.

Benefit:

There is a multi-faceted benefit to repairing a home which reaches from the core family living in the home, rippling outward into the neighborhood encouraging more home repair in an area and further into the business community restoring dignity and livability to all.

As a ministry, the church would be seeking to restore dignity and provide a safe and healthy environment to a family struggling with the aftermath of hurricanes in this area.  This also could be the vehicle to provide healing within a community and to provide the nurture and support of a church to people in and outside of its congregation.
